Why Ferrari built 500 LaFerrari’s instead of only 499

Enzo Ferrari always believed in building one less car than you think you can sell, a mantra that has served Ferrari well over the years. For their latest and ultra exclusive hypercar monster, the LaFerrari, the Italian supercar giant has broken their vows and will produce 500 rather than 499 vehicles. If you have a cool $2,200,000 just collecting dust then you might be able to pick up one of these rare animals but that doesn’t guarantee you’ll be able to buy number 500.

The final LaFerrari will be going up for auction on the 3rd of December as part of a joint effort between Ferrari and the National Italian American Foundation’s Earthquake Relief Fund during the Ferrari Finali Mondiali at the Daytona International Speedway in Florida. The sale will have all funds going towards the relief effort assisting with reconstruction costs from the devastating earthquake that shook central Italy on the 24th of August this year.

This one of a kind LaFerrari includes a commemorative plaque to go with a unique Ferrari red livery and black interior.

RM Sotherby’s will be conducting the Auction and CEO Rob Myer’s remarked: “It is an honour for RM Sotheby’s to be entrusted with the sale of this important car and to help raise significant funds for a desperate cause.

The earthquakes which have struck Central Italy this year devastated the lives of thousands of people, and the money raised by the sale of this one-of-a-kind, and final, LaFerrari, could not be put to a better use. The auction will be an historic event, and the generosity of Ferrari SpA will change lives in the areas most affected by the natural disaster.
