Police first spotted the erratic driving of a BMW 3 series in the town of Whittlesea about 50km north of Melbourne and began their pursuit calling out the Police Air Wing for assistance. The teenage driver of the car was accompanied by another male in the passenger seat and two girls in the rear. The driver must have been running a little low on fuel and actually pulled over into a service station before stealing fuel and heading towards Kilmore.
Not only was the driver driving on the wrong side of the road and swerving to avoid oncoming traffic but he also posed a huge threat to pedestrians while flying by at dangerous speeds. The driver pulled over at another service station where the two girls ran out from the vehicle to a nearby Aldi supermarket where they were later apprehended by police while the men continued fleeing heading towards Bendigo. Police called off the air pursuit for concern of public harm from the driver attempting to flee.
