McLaren ends one era and enters the next with the 720S

At the McLaren Production Centre in Woking England the final car based on the P11 model line has been produced. Production of the P11 model line started with the McLaren 12C (pictured) and ends with the 675 LT. From now on cars leaving the factory floor will be based on the P14 Second Generation Super Series.

Hand built and finished in Glacier White, this “Job#1” 720S is the first full production 720S to leave the factory and the first car from McLaren to make use of the new platform.

The new McLaren 720S entering volume production is a momentous occasion for McLaren Automotive, marking the first time since the company was formed in 2010 that we have replaced a model family with an all-new generation,” commented Mike Flewitt, Chief Executive Officer, McLaren Automotive.
Customer interest in the new McLaren 720S following its unveiling in March at the Geneva International Motor Show has significantly exceeded our expectations and we are bidding farewell to the first-generation Super Series in the knowledge that we have a successor that raises limits in the supercar segment to new heights.

Including the 720S there’s 15 new models in total to be built using the new platform that McLaren plan to launch by 2022. They’re certainly starting off strong with the 720S, 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) flys by in 2.8 seconds and 5 seconds later the 720S will hit 200km/h, all thanks to its 4 litre V8 twin-turbocharged engine that as the name implies, generates 720 hp (537kW). Pricing in Australia starts off at a modest $489,900 excluding on road costs.
