Isuzu’s MU-X gets pumped up with more torque

Isuzu’s MU-X receives a number of improvements for the 2017 model, many of which made their appearance in the also recently updated Isuzu D-MAX.

Up front the face lifted MU-X benefits from a new grill, headlight assembly and front fascia which houses auto leveling Bi-LED projector headlights. LS-U and LS-T models gain newly designed front fog lights for further visibility improvements in poor lighting conditions.

All new 18 inch alloy wheels wrapped with All-Terrain tyres make an appearance on LS-U and LS-T models while the LS-M sports a set of newly designed 16-inch alloys.

Isuzu has placed an emphasis on improving both the look and refinement of the interior making good use of soft touch materials for the dashboard, armrests and console coverings. Highlights of chrome and piano black trim are used throughout all models while the top spec LS-T now has quilted design leather accented seats. In order to reduce noise, vibration and harshness, Isuzu has made use of superior sound and vibration insulation materials throughout.

Reversing camera’s are available on all models as standard via a 7-inch touch screen for the LS-M and 8-inch for the LS-U and LS-T models. Two roof mounted speakers beef up the sound system across the range and occupants of the second and third row seats in the LS-T can enjoy the newly added 10″ roof mounted DVD screen with remote control.

Developed exclusively for the Australian market and the first to receive it, the MU-X is now powered by Isuzu’s 3.0-litre Euro5 compliant turbo-diesel engine now with an additional 50Nm or torque bringing the output to 430Nm in total. Not only is there increased torque but it’s also more available throughout the rev range, hitting peak torque 100rpm earlier and extending 700rpm higher at 1,700 – 3,500 rpm. This is thanks to the variable geometry turbocharger, intercooler and ultra-high pressure common rail fuel injection system. The end result is a much more driveable engine that has met tighter emission standards and runs more efficiently.

To handle the additional torque the MU-X is now fitted with a stronger differential and all new 6 speed automatic gearbox featuring adaptive learning which adjusts gear changes to suit your driving style and situation. Whether you’re towing, carrying a load, driving in rough terrain or cruising down the highway, the gearbox is optimised for further driveability and fuel efficiency. For those that want additional control a sequential shift mode is also available or the choice of a 6 speed manual gearbox.
