High-Performance Hyundai RN30 Concept revealed at Paris Motor Show

Hyundai’s world premiere of their latest performance N concept, the RN30 has been revealed to all at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. The N concept is a motorsport inspired racing concept with the ambition of providing driver passion and pleasure on the track to everybody. Hyundai appears serious about bringing this concept to the showroom floor as a complete production vehicle.

Head of Vehicle Test and High Performance Development for Hyundai Motor Albert Biermann said: “RN30 embodies the concept of a strong, high-performance car that brings dynamic, sporty driving. Soon to evolve into our first N model, the RN30 is inspired by our passion to provide a high-performance car that everybody can enjoy effortlessly. We have drawn on our technological expertise – honed through our motorsport successes – to deliver emotional delight through an engaging blend of performance and control, the goal Hyundai’s N strives to achieve in future performance models.”

Breathing life into the RN30 is a 2.0 litre turbocharged engine which is currently undergoing further development. Total power output stands at 280kw with 451Nm of torque, making the RN30 no slouch. To handle the additional power forged internals have made their way into the engine for increased durability.

A wet-type dual-clutch transmission reliably delivers power to all four wheels of the RN30 providing responsive gear shifts and direct coupling for dynamic acceleration.. To help manage traction and cornering performance an electronic limited slip differential (eLSD) provides each wheel with precisely measured torque to make the most of the available tyre grip. The combination of a variable exhaust system and rev matching make the RN30 sporting on the track and manageable on the streets.

During development Hyundai focused heavily on lowering the centre of gravity and weight reduction. A collaborative effort with BASF has produced a newly developed carbon fibre reinforced polymer which is not only light and durable but also environmentally friendly. The material features throughout the car to remove weight where possible and heavier components have been mounted lower in a bid to drop the centre of gravity for better handling performance.

To accommodate the 19″ wheels and wide tyres floating guards feature on the body along with side splitters for improved aerodynamics. Rear downforce at speed is created by the large spoiler and rear diffuser giving the car an aggressive look from the rear.

Attention to the driving experience inside has been granted with bucket seats so the driver can connect with the car at all times and an integrated roll cage to keep them safe while adding rigidity to the body. One very cool addition to the RN30 are the image stabilising gimbal cameras mounted inside the A pillars. When used in conjunction with the roof mounted centre fin camera drivers will have no problems capturing all of their greatest moments from the track.
