Along with the sedan and sportwagon, Holden have just confirmed the development of a third body type for the new Commodore, an off road focused Tourer set for release in 2018.
“The next-generation Commodore Tourer gives the range a new level of appeal, combining Australia’s love for SUVs with the practicality of a wagon and the driving appeal of a sedan. Whether you’re a weekend warrior, or just like the idea of being one, the Commodore Tourer gives our range a new dimension” said Holden’s Director – Communications, Sean Poppitt.
“Commodore Tourer comes with a high-tech AWD system and also lets customers select specific driving modes, giving them the flexibility to be able to get off the beaten track – whether that’s finding secluded camp spots, quiet surf beaches or boutiques in Bondi.”
The Tourer comes in at 110mm and 20mm longer than the sedan and sportwagon respectively and most importantly rides 20mm higher all round for improved off road clearance. There’s a number of other off road focused improvements that come standard with the Tourer to assist with its rugged nature.
To protect the body from scuffs and scratches the lower fascia and wheel arches feature protective off road enhancements in black while the underbody of the car is protected by a silver skid plate. For enhanced functionality and cargo carrying capacity roof rails come standard while visually the slim headlights and wide grill combine with the dual exhaust bezels for a more striking appearance.
“The Commodore Tourer body-style is designed for the self-aware buyer who appreciates the style, seating comfort and practicality of a sportwagon with a bit more capability,” said Holden’s Director – Design, Richard Ferlazzo.
“The Europeans have always excelled at finding this balance of style and robustness and the Commodore Tourer is a great example.”
The biggest addition to the Tourer will be the advanced AWD system with torque vectoring due to two electrical controlled multi-plate clutches for precise power transmission to each wheel. An included sports mode will also sharpen up the steering, AWD system and transmission to deliver the driver a more responsive and sharp driving experience.
The Tourer also benefits from improved safety features that are core to the new Commodore platform with:
