Not many vehicles make it to their 25th birthday but the BMW 5 Series Touring is one of the select few that’s stood the test of time becoming a favorite among executives. To be launched in June of this year in Europe, the new 5 Series Touring has gone on a diet dropping up to 100kg on average against the outgoing model. In an age of increasingly larger and heavier cars it’s impressive to see BMW focus their engineering efforts on reversing this trend, the pay off coming in the form of improved fuel economy and performance.
The new BMW 5 Series Touring will become available at dealerships across the nation in four different model variants.

Both the 540i and the 530d are also available with the xDrive all-wheel drive option which continuously adjusts the power torque split between the front and rear axle to suit driving conditions.
Thanks to the slightly larger body and interior redesign, there’s now more room on board for increased comfort with more head, shoulder and legroom available in all seats and improved comfort from the backrest contours, improved seat depth and extended kneeroom. The increased room doesn’t only benefit passengers, boot space has been increased to 570 liters with the 40:20:40 split seats up or a maximum of 1700 liters with everything flat.
On the safety front the 5 Series Touring now comes with collision warning, pedestrian warning, city braking function, crossing traffic/priority warning, lane change assist, lane keeping assist, evasion aid and steering and lane control assist up to 210km/h.
Air suspension with automatic self leveling is now standard on all models for the rear axle for a smoother more comfortable ride.
For further customisation a Sport Line and a Luxury Line are available as options. Both options benefit from LED front foglamps and illuminated aluminium door sill strips. The Sport Line comes with gloss black grille bars, air breather covers, side window surrounds, black chrome tail pipes, 18″ alloy wheels, sports seats and sports steering wheel. The Luxury Line comes with air breather covers, side window surrounds and various other accents in a chrome finish as well as 18″ alloy wheels, leather upholstery, wood trim strips for the instrument panel and window sills.
Also available from launch will be the M Sport package which brings with it lowered M Sport suspension, light 18″ or 19″ alloy wheels, M Aerodynamics package featuring unique side skirts, front and rear apron and rectangular exhaust tail pipes. Inside the M sports seats come upholstered in cloth and alcantara while the M Sport wheel is finished off in leather trim.
